47 years, yet certain things never change.. part 1

this article was taken from Sarawak Tribune, August 29 2004 written by Violet Tay..do read it...you`ll know it is interesting...

MALAYSIANS are a patriotic lot, that is unquestionable. Malaysians are also well known for their friendliness, warmth, kindness and generosity that have impressed many foreigners. Unfortunately, Malaysians too have an ugly side.

1. WHEN Malaysians got behind the wheel, it is as if they have turned into a different person altogether with different persona. They jumped queues, drove in and out and trailed closely behind other vehicles. They cut into another lane without using the indicator. Even if they do, that is often when the vehicle has already moved into another lane.

2. MALAYSIANS do not like queuing. Instead, they enjoy jostling, shoving and elbowing each other, from buying food and movie tickets to boarding bus and plane. It is more obvious when there is a sale going and things are selling at dirt- cheap prices as the pushing often starts right at the entrance of the shopping mall.

3. TIME punctuality in Malaysia is another problem. Most functions, if not all, do not start on time. If the invitation card states 6.30pm, there are still people arriving at 7.30pm. Malaysian time, so they say. Even irritating is when a function does not start on time, sometimes an hour later from the time stated.

4. BREAKING the law too is what Malaysians are good at. Below the signboard Do Not Litter is home to a rubbish pile-up. At petrol stations, people still talk on mobile phones or the fingers would be busy sms-ing despite the clear signs posted. Then there are those who so conveniently light up at a no-smoking zone.

to be continued...

BREAKING the law too is what Malaysians are good at. <--laws / rules are meant to be broken. what more can i say? some laws are "ridikulus", take our "favorite" uni for example, the laws was stupid, selfish, too barbaric. we are not secondary students..for god sake.
